OUT OF MY MIND
Produced in one-act version at the Bailiwick Theater in Chicago
Converting the full-length play to a film with the same title.
Jake Burrows is a masculine TV Star who believes he's not a good actor and only has a career as long as he does action dramas with very little speaking and stays sexy in the eyes of his female audience. He is also gay and way far back in the closet to a point that he is obsessed about keeping his secret for fear of losing everything. The women on his arm are a sham and he has never had a relationship with anyone.
All of this is in the mind of lonely writer Jack who is in the midst of writing his screenplay DEFLECTION, during which he challenges Jake by placing a smart, handsome photographer in front of him (inspired by the man on whom he develops a crush as he writes at Starbuck's). Jake and the other characters know they are being written and have some things to say about that to Jack's delight and discouragement. As Jake takes a journey toward love that is both funny and dark, that involves becoming a leader and model when he "comes out" on national TV, Jack begins to learn from him about honesty, strength and finding his own love in the real world.

STREETWALK SERENADE
In 1977 New York, John is approaching middle-age, a bit overweight, set in his ways and single after a long-term relationship became a friendship. He takes in "Jimmy" a young street hustler and never intends to have him stay longer than one night. But Jimmy keeps returning and though they have almost nothing in common except loneliness, a kind of love grows between them. John does not heed warnings from friends who do not see that Jimmy is making him happier than he has been in a long while and that John could help Jimmy "go straight". They walk a very short road together, through a disastrous Thanksgiving during which John's friends reject Jimmy and John doesn't come to his defense, to a reconciliation for what looks to be a good Christmas. Unbeknownst to John, Jimmy who by now has sworn off hustling, goes out on Christmas Eve to turn a trick one more time just to earn enough for an expensive gift for John and is killed. When Jimmy doesn't return, John guesses the worst and after profound anger and sadness, decides even after his death is confirmed, to believe that Jimmy is still alive and followed a dream to go to Florida to be in the sun.
